Most video game lovers seem to have already watched Resident Evil (2026). Well, there are different stories to what they feel about it. For someone who has played the game for years, you might agree that there’s something strange about watching the movie.
Of course, there’s no denying it is an entertaining horror movie. But where is all the ‘Resident Evil?’ Resident Evil is directed by Zach Cregger and it is a reboot of this beloved franchise, at least in the video game realm.
It is the eighth Resident Evil movie to have ever hit the big screen. And the first important thing to say is that it is not bad. Far from it. Zach Cregger has always exceled at creating tension, and the movie clearly depicts this.
A Good Horror Movie
Resident Evil (2026) follows a medical courier (Austin Abrams who plays Bryan) tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon find himself caught in the middle of an outbreak in and around Raccoon City and must fight mutated creatures to survive.
You shouldn’t expect another experienced zombie hunter or super-soldier movie since Bryan is simply a guy who has no idea what he’s doing. Let’s say that works perfectly. His entire journey in and around Raccoon City brings out something important about the games: you’re completely out of your depth and need to find something to help you stay alive.
Nothing Much From the Lore
Zack Cregger isn’t trying to adapt a game’s story or anything from the lore. Rather, he is trying to establish the world that we know with the Umbrella Corporation and the T-virus and place a person in it and have their own little thing happening.

What this simply means is that the movie doesn’t do much with the remarkably rich mythology that Capcom has spent decades building. There’s nothing wrong with this. Actually, it is among the key reasons why the movie works as a standalone film.
The movie is exceptionally funny. Abrams is absolutely stunning. This movie has a really good way of making you feel that you’re in the game by reminding you of mechanics in it.

Is It worth Watching?
The simplest answer to this question is: Absolutely. Some might argue that they don’t know much about Resident Evil. There’s no reason to panic since it is still an entertaining horror film with a lot of gore, weird monsters, dark humor, and some genuinely sense sequences.
The movie doesn’t spend forever trying to explain everything to you. Instead, you get thrown into this nightmare and slowly start figuring out what the hell is going on. I can definitely see myself watching this movie a lot.
So thank you Zach Cregger for finally making a good Resident Evil movie. It has been some time. It is normal that some of the choices will certainly divide people, more so if you expect the games to be copied for scene.
All in all, it is a horror movie worth watching. Thumbs up to Zach Cregger!!
