Omnea: The Startup Reimagining Procurement for the AI Age

Every good company is born out of a clearly noticeable and highly unpleasant problem. That is exactly why Ben Freeman started Omnea. The problem was procurement, a dull, universally hated and dreaded way for companies to obtain goods and services. Freeman at a time while working with an advanced AI-based security platform realized that the same issue of getting suppliers approved, onboarded, and paid kept hindering him. At one point he wanted to find out if it was the same story for everyone. He asked everyone. To put it more clearly, he interviewed 300 procurement leaders and all their answers were basically the same. Procurement processes were being despised the tools were terrible to work with, and those who supposedly were in charge of fixing it felt they were being blocked literally the wrong way by the software stack. This was the moment he realized that the solution is his startup Omnea.

The Founding Vision: Procurement as a Competitive Advantage

In 2022, Freeman co-founded Omnea in London with Ben Allen. Their vision was clear and ambitious: that businesses could use procurement, which for years has been considered nothing more than an unavoidable administrative burden, to a significant strategic advantage provided that such businesses could get procurement right. The timing of the project was more insightful than it seems. Interest rates, rising rapidly, were placing additional financial pressure on companies in all industries. New rules and regulations, including those of the EU’s DORA system and the EU AI Act have been setting tougher standards for any acquisition or investment made through AI. Further adding complication is the huge increase in software companies, that today, enterprises engage with, making managing the supplier relationships an even bigger issue. Procurement could no longer be a business’s “grin and bear it” afterthought. It was time for the procurement function to be reimagined completely; and Omnea took up the challenge.

What Omnea Actually Does

Omnea fundamentally is an end-to-end platform which is native to AI, acting like a single front door to all buying-related activity within an organisation that goes from purchase of goods and services. If an employee wants a new tool, service, or supplier, they do not fire off a chain of emails, fill out various spreadsheets, and go chase approvals around finance, legal IT, and risk teams as was the case in the old times. Rather, they simply ask through Omnea in their natural language without any technical jargon. The platform then picks it up – redirecting the request to the relevant approver, performing compliance checks, handling supplier onboarding, identifying duplicate vendors, keeping track of contracts, and raising flags for renewals before they turn into expensive surprises.

Beyond all these, the platform operates as a continually refreshed database of all supplier information throughout the organisation. Risk teams can discover which vendors don’t have up-to-date security certifications. Procurement teams get a complete view of all the renewals happening in a timely manner. The CFO will always have at their fingertips the expenditure analysis to figure out which suppliers are duplicating or underutilising their capacity. Also, finance and legal systems are integrated so that regulation is part of the process rather than something to be addressed only during an audit.Omnea characterizes this evolving trend as AI Supplier Relationship Management, abbreviated as AI SRM. It is their way of describing a supplier intelligence layer, just as CRM software has become for customer data.

The Numbers Behind the Growth

The validity of Omnea’s proposition is demonstrated through actual results. The platform was quickly adopted by the most famous international brands right after its launch, like Spotify Monzo Wise MongoDB Albertsons, and The Adecco Group. What Omnea was able to achieve for these customers is very tangible: at the end of 2025, Omnea had saved customers 100,000 hours of manual work over two years. A client cut its procurement cycle from 40 days to 15, another reduced the number of access requests by a third, a third discovered 70% of the supplier risks automatically using Omnea’s AI, while before those risk and compliance teams had to rely heavily on manual work. Revenue rose 5 times within 12 months till the end 2025, whereas headcount went more than threefold in the same period. Omna’s 3rd revenue triplication within the year July 2026 was announced. Growth at this level over 2 consecutive years, indicates enterprise demand to be genuine and not a flash in the pan.

Besides delivering tangible value, the platform has also received external acclaim. At the FinTech Breakthrough Awards 2025, Omnea was presented with the Best Overall eProcurement Software Omna topped in January 2026 the prestigious Startups 100 Index, the authoritative listing of the most promising businesses of the UK annually beating 99 other remarkable startups for the number one spot!

Funding: From Seed to Series B

Omnea’s raising of capital has been a telling demonstration of increasing belief from some of venture capital’s most prominent figures. The company raised a seed round in March 2022, then a $20 million Series A in 2024 led by Accel, and first round and point nine also taking part. Nine months later, in September 2025, Omnea raised $50 million Series B round through Insight Partners and Khosla Ventures, with the addition of new investors including Accel Khosla Point Nine, First Round Capital, and Prosus, who participated in this financing round. Omnea will have $75 million funding overall thanks to these injections.

Investors really showed support of Omnea. Jeff Lieberman, a managing director at Insight Partners, called Omnea’s customers the happiest he had seen in a company he was evaluating – a rare trait in software where the user satisfaction is usually lost through very complex functions. Vinod Khosla, the leader of Khosla Ventures, said that AI is transforming procurement processes and that Omnea was leading that change. The Finance Executive Vice President of Spotify But saw the fact of being able to get rid of scattered systems, countless email threads, and the manually filled spreadsheets as a step towards procurement operations being completely transformed.

The Team and Culture

Freeman mainly credits Omnea’s fast growth on the company’s relentless focus on talent density. The company prefers a smaller group of top-performing people rather than hiring more when not needed. Right after starting up the new business, he joined up with ex-workers from Tessian, a security firm bought by Proofpoint. Abhirukt Sapru joined as Omnea’s Chief Commercial Officer and Sabrina Castiglione as Chief Financial Officer. They had been two of the major figures behind Tessian’s expansion. Also in January 2026, Omnea brought on Arie Barendrecht, a smart building intelligence startup founder WiredScore, as its US General Manager. This indicated a big effort to gain market in North American enterprises.

What Comes Next

Omea has clearly shown that their goals go a lot further than just procurement intake and approval workflows. The company is setting up for an all-in-one AI-driven SRM platform that will be the single authoritative system of intelligence for all supplier related data in a company. They have also released a Future Founders Fund together with Firedrop which is a venture to support the current employees and/or co-founders to start their own companies. Apart from above, in June 2026, the company has partnered with Tropic to integrate AI-based price intelligence software within the SaaS procurement process so that the clients can compare the supplier prices from the best available benchmark and negotiate with data-backed insights.

The Omnea is still quite new as it was only established four years ago but Truth is the company has a clear picture of its category, has secured substantial enterprise clientele, and has gathered top notch investors and the team makes it one of those companies to have a future development curve that many well-established companies would dream of. Being very different from any typical glamorous business such as procurement, this is definitely an impressive feat.
