Hearing tech startup Legato made public on Thursday that its flagship AI-based hearing glasses are now available for purchase. The glasses called Legato Frames, integrate the company’s patented hearing-assistance technology into the arms of eyewear frames.
But it makes sense to know a bit about the startup before having a look at the product they offer. The hearing technology companies operates out of Boston and was originally co-founded in 2024.
The company is co-founded by two veteran industry executives Mehul Trivedi (CEO) and Steve Romine (President). Mehul Trivedi led the development of Bose Frames, an audio-only augmented reality (AR) platform. He also served as senior vice president of wearable tech at EssilorLuxottica (Meta Ray-Bans).
Mehul Trivedi created Bose Frames from the ground up, launched hearing glasses and brought smart glasses into the mainstream. With Legato, he’s pushing that idea further: making better hearing feel natural, effortless, and part of everyday life.
Steve Romine, on the other hand, headed up the hearing aid division at Bose. He also served as chief operating officer at Audicus, a direct-to-consumer hearing care company. It is important to mention that Legato emerged from stealth with $12 million in new seed financing.
He’s spent years making hearing solutions more accessible and easier to use. At Legato, he’s helping bring that same clarity and simplicity into a form people actually want to wear.
Its investors include Neotribe Ventures. Listen and Village Global. The aim of this financing is for development and marketing support for those aforementioned AI-powered hearing glasses, dubbed the Legato Frames.
Now let’s come back to their new product. Legato Frames will be starting at $999. The glasses are designed for adults with up to moderate levels of hearing loss. They stem from the startup’s goals of making hearing care more accessible. This is made possible by addressing the cost, comfort, and stigma associated with traditional hearing aids.

You’re in for a rude shock if expecting your traditional hearing aids. Most of these are known to use directional microphones to focus on sounds coming from a particular direction. The problem is that they tend to struggle when it comes to noisy environments.
This is something you no longer have to worry about when using Legato Frames. That’s because it’s AI-powered system distinguishes voices from background noise and amplifies voices while reducing unwanted sounds.
Yes, the frames come with an open-ear design. But the sound isn’t broadcast to people around you. The frames feature a dual-speaker system that directs sounds toward the wearer while cancelling sounds that escapes. This ends up reducing the sound by 99% just a few inches away from the ear.
You should expect the glasses to wear 34 grams with lenses and offer 10-12 hours of battery life. Legato Frames are available in three styles and support prescription lenses and Bluetooth streaming for music and calls.
Legato Frames can be purchased on the startup’s website. You can also decide to buy them through select eye care providers in the U.S, where they are eligible for coverage by vision insurance.
