Childhood and Education
Born October 7, 1998, Sugar Land, Texas. He spent much of his formative years in the state and attended Rice High School in the small Texas town of Altair, where he discovered a passion for running and competition. He was a bright student and graduated valedictorian in 2017.
His ancestry is strikingly diverse: a DNA test revealed 69% Irish heritage and one-quarter Costa Rican descent from his paternal grandfather, plus traces of Acadian French, English, Scottish, German, Czech, Swiss, Welsh, Spanish and Swedish roots. His last name, “Trahan,” is itself of German and French origin.
Ryan attended Texas A&M University, where he was a top cross-country runner and a student. He was also third in the 2017 Aggieland Open Competition. But his academic career took a hit when the NCAA declared him ineligible for advertising his company while posting running videos on his YouTube channel as a student athlete. Trahan wanted a waiver with the association that would allow him to keep running his business while still being an athlete, but he dropped out of university to continue working on the business and his YouTube channel.

Professional life
Trahan started his YouTube channel on October 27, 2013 and initially made running content. He kicked off his career as a content creator in April 2018 with the video “Copying Emma Chamberlain’s Instagram for a Week” which gained over 1.5 million views and helped him grow his subscriber base substantially. He later posted one of his most successful videos to date, “LOREN GRAY is LYING TO YOU proof,” which has gone viral and has garnered more than 9.2 million views.
In 2019, Trahan hit 1 million subscribers on January 29, which led to him doing content creation full time. His audience kept growing rapidly and reached over 10 million subscribers by July 4, 2022.
His most celebrated project is the Penny Series. Inspired by Gary Vaynerchuk, Trahan launched a monthlong series in June 2022 in which he attempted to travel from California to North Carolina with the sole purpose of giving MrBeast a single penny, using only the money from the original penny. The 2022 “Penny Challenge” will also be a fundraiser for Feeding America, Trahan announced, with a goal of $100,000, a goal he would surpass by a significant margin, ultimately raising over $1.38 million by the end of the challenge.
Ryan is also a serial entrepreneur aside from content creation. In 2016, Trahan and a friend named Caden Wiese started a water bottle brand called Neptune Bottle. In 2023, he started a clothing line called Howdy Howdy. In 2024 Trahan announced that he had become co-owner and chief creative officer for Joyride Sweets, which makes non-GMO, vegan and low-carbohydrate candy products. The first product launched to Target and sold out on day one.
Trahan most recently finished a “50 States in 50 Days” fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the summer of 2025, raising over $11 million. A handful of celebrities, YouTubers and brands, such as T-Mobile, Airbnb, Kia, MrBeast and Mark Rober, took note of the project.
Personal Life
Ryan Trahan is married to YouTube creator Haley Pham since November 8, 2020. They began dating in the Fall of 2018 after working on a video together. Months into their relationship, they created “The Traphamily” in 2019, a YouTube channel they co-shared for skits and challenges for couples. Ryan proposed at Big Bend National Park in May 2020 and married in a small ceremony in Austin that November.
Ryan’s social media also shows how close he is to his family, especially his father and brother Matthew. His older brother Matthew sometimes appears with him in videos such as running challenges or family Q&As. His parents (whose names he keeps mostly private) supported his running and early content creation but stayed out of the public eye.
Ryan credits Haley with his conversion to faith, saying in a 2020 video, “I was a cynical atheist, but I landed on Jesus… It’s my happiness source.” He is living in Austin Texas.
